Saving the Marble Funnels with Rubber Coating? - Marble Machine X #129

Rubber coating might be used at several places of the machine to reduce the high frequency metal on metal sounds everywhere! After this successful test I want to dip the whole Marble Machine X in a 3 meter diameter pool of plastidip.

I'm worried about plywood friction. Some layer of polyamide would prevent plywood friction dammage for sure. Also screw threads hit constantly by marbles doesent seems to be a good idea. Marbles get dammaged. Screw thread gets dammaged, also i guess its noisy. Maybe try to use an inner threaded nylon spacer on the end of the screw. (where marblehit) Not sure if it gets attention, its already a thousand comments here. Good luck Martin

I actually prefer the machine (or parts of the machine) making their own distinct "noises". Peculiar mechanical sounds. It makes the machine into a unique instrument, instead of making the machine attempt to emulate other instruments.

How about "weaving" a rubber band between the wires forming the funnel? Not completely. My guess is just one or two strands would be just as effective if not even more effective than the coating. Rubber bands are just a test suggestion, I would not implement rubber band in any permanent solution as it deteriorates way too quickly. I guess simple piece of soft string (wool, linen, cotton) could work just as well as the rubber band. Your have to weave the two parts separately to allow the funnels to open of course.

im from argentina, i speak spanish, and i dont get it why you need a chanel in spanish when you can absolute make less effort and put subtitles in spanish. For example many translations in spanish languaje add a lot of terms who are not exactly what are you saying... i always prefer the native languaje, i see chinese, korean, indi... movies all in his native languaje whit spanish subs. And its a better experience.

Have you considered how you are going to pack for shipping this somewhat delicate machine on a world tour? Not all roads are very friendly to such gadgetry. Some type of shock dampening crate, is a necessity.

Perhaps it's time to scrap those funnels that H.R. Giger would be proud of... 🤔 While they're worthy of being called art, why not use a material that will accept the impact of falling steel marbles a bit better than welded steel wire?

just put a foam cup on the inside of the metal cup. The foam will deaden all the noise, while the metal will provide the structural rigidity and function.

At almost a thousand comments I doubt mine will reach Martin's ears. Most comments are about MMX. This comment is about you MARTIN. MMX is awesome. But it took the skills you have learned since the start of #2 to make it happen and that's more awesome. You have learned how to weld parts like a professional now. Your hand wood working is like someone that has been doing it for decades. But the "BIGGIE", is the Cad and CNC stuff. When all this started. Not that long ago. You knew little to nothing about Cad and CNC. Now look at how comfortable you are at designing a part in CAD and then using CNCing or sending off the file to make it.. (Did I just invent the phrase "CNCing"?) It's an art like music. Music is your thing. That is number one for you. This pandemic is a problem for doing the number one, music shows and the income from it. You have learned new skills and are good at it. You now have skills to fill in for a time when the music venue is in decline.

Martin is a man crazy focused on his passions in life mastering every skill from leadership, handiwork, industrial work, to software, and I haven't even mentioned music. Really a Da Vinci of this age. It's crazy how watching this guy work inspires me to strive harder in my goals in life. This guy says he procrastinates sometimes, in truth he already over-achieved his goals in some ways. I have a framed poster of the MMX blueprint in my hallway to always remind myself of my goals.

Been watching off and on for three years! Love your project, love your content. Had an idea for later, build a companion machine that can mechanically reload the song into the boards (I don't remember what you call them) but you would be able to load new songs mechanically or robotically and could save time and reduce the amount of extra boards you need for extra songs, but it would be another machine. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other! Thank you for making your marble machines and the video content!

martin on cars they put a rubber mount with a steel weight molded on to it to stop harmonics you could put something like that on the steel bridge that all the funnels are connected to . cars usually have them mounted on the exhaust pipe or front wheel drive cars also have them mounted on the side of a gearbox or engine mounts but a rubber mounted steel weight would absorb a lot of the noise just remember the mounting bolt cannot be affixed to the weight it has to be fixed to the opposite side of the steel weight hope this info helps ps on a car the weight is about 2 or 3 hundred grams
didierleclerc66 5 kuukautta sitten
I keep wondering why you have designed all these individual steel cages. It's complex, noisy, difficult to adjust. Why not have a large receiver across the whole machine, padded with some absorbing material ?
